ABC, abbreviated the American Broadcasting Company, launched on April 19, 1948. It began using in-credit text logos on their programs in 1953. Since then, NBC, CBS and ABC were known as the three traditional commercial broadcast television networks. They have dominated television for more than 30 years.
Partnership with Disney
ABC was acquired by The Walt Disney Company in 1995. Beginning on September 28, 1997, this company aired movies once a week on Sundays, under The Wonderful World of Disney series, which lasted through Christmas Eve (December 24) of 2008.
Children's programming
The network's first children's programming block, Disney's One Saturday Morning, launched on September 13, 1997, and ran for two hours every Saturday morning on ABC. Five years later, on September 14, 2002, the same day when Discovery Kids on NBC also launched, Disney's One Saturday Morning was replaced by a new block called ABC Kids. Most shows that aired there were originally from Disney Channel. ABC Kids lasted for nine years, through August 27, 2011.
ABC today
ABC's official website (abc.com, later abc.go.com) launched on May 22, 1996.
ABC began broadcasting their programs in HDTV (16:9/1080i) format since the 2000s, and analog transmissions were shut down on June 12, 2009, like in all other over-the-air television networks.
