Boast Busters is the sixth episode of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. This episode marks the first time two members of the Mane Six are (mostly) absent.

Synopsis

The arrival of Trixie, a boastful pony with magical skills, irritates the ponies in Ponyville who turn to Twilight to challenge her.

Production

The episode started development on October 22, 2009 as episode #7. At first, Fluttershy and Pinkie Pie appeared to be written in the episode, but when the outline was finished on November 17, 2009 (it was first written on November 6), they were both written out. At the same time, the unicorn, originally a stallion, was changed to a mare named Trixie.

Chris Savino wrote the first full script from November 20 to December 17, 2009, then a second draft from December 21–22. At that time, Boast Busters switched places with Dragonshy on the writing schedule, making Boast Busters now episode #6 for Season 1. The last revisions were made on December 31, 2009, and voice recording of the episode occurred on January 25, 2010.

Storyboarding began on February 15, 2010, and the first animatic was submitted for review on May 4, 2010.

The client cut was submitted for review on August 18, 2010.

The musical score was added to the episode on September 9, 2010.

Production was officially complete on October 5, 2010.
