First unveiled on February 18, 1992 by TBS Superstation, the Cartoon Network was launched on October 1, 1992. This cable television network's programs mainly consist of animated series, though it sometimes also airs live action programs as well by today's standards.

On September 2, 2001, Cartoon Network's first adult-oriented programming block called "Adult Swim" premiered. Like Nick at Nite, Adult Swim only airs during primetime hours, and like Comedy Central, its programs are designed for older teens and adults.
