Synopsis

Why was Elsa born with magical powers? The answer is calling her and threatening her kingdom. Together with Anna, Kristoff, Olaf and Sven, she'll set out on a dangerous but remarkable journey. In “Frozen,” Elsa feared her powers were too much for the world. In Frozen II, she must hope they are enough.

Production timeline

  • March 12, 2015: Development of Frozen 2 dates back to this date, when it was nominated (later with Ralph Breaks the Internet) for release on November 21, 2018, both taking the place of Dean Wellins' film. At that time, another film, titled Gigantic, was scheduled for release on March 9, 2018, after Moana was assigned the November 23, 2016 release date.
  • June 30, 2016: Ralph Breaks the Internet temporarily moved up from its nomination for release on November 21, 2018 to March 9, 2018, pushing Gigantic back to that other date, and now leaving Frozen 2 with November 27, 2019 at the earliest.
  • April 25, 2017: Frozen 2 was officially confirmed for release on November 27, 2019, while Gigantic was pushed back to a date after this film, before it was eventually canceled altogether.
  • July 14, 2017: Not many details were revealed at the next D23 Expo for this film, but Kristen Bell (the voice of Anna) did announce that production was starting. Walt Disney Animation Studios did not announce any more films with full details until the next D23 Expo in 2019.
