My Little Pony: Equestria Girls began production of DVD copies on June 10, 2013 (with all contents last modified on June 7, 2013), before it hit theaters on June 16, then released in stores on August 6.

February 10–March 2, 2012 McCarthy made revisions to the script.
March 15–22, 2012 Lyrics for the songs in the film were written.
April 24–25, 2012 The "Cafeteria Song" and "Time to Get Together" were first performed.
May 11, 2012 "Big Night" was first performed.
May 14–22, 2012 A full animatic for the "Cafeteria Song" scene was made. It was completed by June 1.
May 28, 2012 "My Little Pony Friends", a song originally intended for the end credits, was first performed.
July 11–12, 2012 Unmixed versions of all songs were finalized.
August 7–13, 2012 "This Strange World" was first performed. An animatic of the scene with this song was also made.
December 4, 2012 The final script was written.
January 22–31, 2013 The first fully animated cut of the film was submitted for review, in eight parts. Several scenes were cut.
March 15, 2013 The final cut of the film was submitted for review.
March 28, 2013 "A Friend for Life" was first performed. This song replaced "My Little Pony Friends" for use in the end credits.
April 24, 2013 "A Friend for Life" was finalized.
May 9, 2013 Production of the film was completed.
May 13, 2013 The film's production code number was "902-101".

Synopsis

Join Twilight Sparkle and her new Canterlot high friends in this brand new animated feature! When her crown is stolen from the Crystal Empire, Twilight Sparkle pursues the thief into an alternate world where she finds herself turned into... a teenage girl! To regain her crown and return to Equestria, Twilight must learn how to fit into this strange new world and defeat Sunset Shimmer in a competition to becomes crowned Princess of the Fall Formal at Canterlot High. Luckily, she'll have the assistance of Spike and five teenage girls who remind her of a certain group of ponies back home.
