My Little Pony: Equestria Girls: Friendship Games finished production on September 4, 2015, with copies of the DVD being produced as of the next day (September 5). It was released on October 13, 2015.
Synopsis[]
Canterlot High meets its rival school, Crystal Prep Academy, in a competition that's a long-standing tradition -- the Friendship Games! Sunset Shimmer feels homesick for the magic of Equestria while she and her friends compete against Crystal Prep's top students led by someone with an equal amount of interest in Equestrian magic -- this world's Twilight Sparkle!

- February 25, 2014: Friendship Games began development on this date when Josh Haber wrote the premise.
- March 17, 2014: The full outline was completed.
- April 7, 2014: Josh Haber wrote the first full script. He revised it on April 28.
- May 19–June 20, 2014: Script polished.
- May 21, 2014: Piano demos for "What More is Out There?" and "CHS Rally Song" were performed.
- June 2, 2014: First full demo for "What More is Out There?" composed and performed.
- June 9, 2014: First full demo for "CHS Rally Song" composed and performed.
- June 10, 2014: Full demo for "ACADECA" composed and performed.
- July 17, 2014: Full demo for "The Friendship Games" song composed and performed.
- July 18, 2014: Full demo for "Right There in Front of Me" composed and performed.
- July 22, 2014: Full demo for "Unleash the Magic" composed and performed.
- November 27, 2014: A complete animatic of the film was submitted for review.
- December 3, 2014: Meghan McCarthy ordered the film to be rewritten with some scenes removed. For example, an alternate ending was ordered, where Twilight (Sci-Twi) accepts Celestia's offer to attend CHS instead of choosing to go back to Crystal Prep, so she can learn more about friendship. As a result, the script was rewritten on December 5.
- December 12, 2014: A shorter version of "What More is Out There?" was first performed. The final version was performed on December 15.
- December 18–19, 2014: Final mixes of all other songs were composed and performed.
- March 13, 2015: The final script was written.
- May 15, 2015: All songs were finalized.
- August 26, 2015: Production was officially completed.
Television broadcasts[]
The film premiered on Discovery Family on September 26, 2015, and also aired there on November 5, 2016, before the premiere of Legend of Everfree. It later broadcast during the "Party with the Ponies" marathon on December 31, 2016, during the Season 7 premiere in April 2017, and immediately following the premiere of "Mirror Magic" on July 8, 2017. It was broadcast again on February 11, 2018, and on March 25, 2018, the day after the premiere of Season 8 of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, and before the Disney Channel premiere of Zootopia. The film last aired on July 8, 2023 at 12:30 p.m.

"What More is Out There" did not have a music video because on October 8, 2015, Sony Music Entertainment cracked down on some clips from the film. In addition, the song does not appear in the end credits of the TV version.
On May 4, 2016, a blooper reel was released on the official website, but its YouTube channel did not upload it.
