Secret of My Excess is the 10th Season 2 episode of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic.
Synopsis[]
Spike's birthday gifts activate his greedy dragon instincts and cause an outrageous growth spurt that threatens to destroy all of Ponyville.
Production[]
The idea of this episode came from an early version of the Christmas special, as part of the Season 2 plan on August 27, 2010, where Spike's greed for gifts transforms him into a monstrous adult dragon. The first premise was written on September 3, and was re-written on September 20 under the title "Giving Dangerously", in which now it was no longer the Christmas special.
M.A. Larson wrote the full outline from September 24 through October 12, 2010, and the first full script from October 15 through November 23. Revisions were made to the script from November 24 through December 3, 2010.
A new title for this episode was ordered on January 21, 2011. It was officially re-titled "Attack of the 50-Foot Dragon" on February 7, after voice recording occurred on February 3.
The completed animatic for this episode was submitted for review on May 9, 2011.
Attack of the 50-Foot Dragon was re-titled "Secret of My Excess" on June 23, 2011.
A rough cut of the animated episode was submitted for review on September 7, 2011.
Production was officially complete on November 8, 2011.
