Sega Saturn

Overview[]

Sega's 32-bit console, the Saturn, was their next home console that came after the Genesis. It is the last console that fits up to two controllers, each of which contain the Control Pad on the left, a Start Button on the middle, and six trigger buttons labeled with the first three and last three letters of the alphabet (A, B, C, X, Y and Z).

The Sega Saturn was released on November 22, 1994 in Japan, May 11, 1995 in North America, and July 8, 1995 in Europe. Only more than 9 million units sold worldwide, due to its rapid loss of market share in late 1996, before the console was discontinued in 1998, and in Japan in 2000.

Games[]

Only at least two Sonic games were released in 1997 for the Saturn -- Sonic Jam and Sonic R.

Nintendo vs. Sega[]

The Sega Saturn was the Nintendo 64's first competitor since its launch on June 23, 1996 in Japan, and late in September 1996 in North America. The Nintendo 64's wild success was the most probable sole reason why the Saturn became a commercial failure.
